FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a retirement plan and a pension plan?
They are often used interchangeably. A retirement insurance plan has a life cover component during the accumulation phase, while a pension plan (annuity) purely focuses on guaranteed income after retirement. Both can be combined for complete retirement security.
Can I withdraw money before retirement age?
Most retirement plans have a lock-in period. Premature surrender is allowed but attracts surrender charges and tax implications. Partial withdrawals may be available after 3-5 years in some plans.
How much pension will I get?
The pension amount depends on the premium paid, policy term, chosen retirement age, and the insurer's annuity rates at the time of vesting. Use our advisor consultation to get a customized pension projection.
Is the pension amount taxable?
One-third of the commuted pension amount is tax-free. The remaining annuity income is added to your taxable income. However, premiums paid qualify for 80C deduction up to Rs.1.5 Lakhs annually.
What happens if I die before retirement?
Your nominee receives the sum assured (life cover) plus the accumulated fund value, depending on the plan type. Some plans also provide a return of total premiums paid to the nominee.
